The golf swing is a violent, swift, torsional movement causing golf injuries and requiring a body to be conditioned.
The anatomy of the lumbar spine (low back) allows for flexion and not necessarily rotation. While the anatomy of the thoracic spine (mid back) allows for rotation and not necessarily flexion. Muscles have an inherent “End Range” of motion. It is the nature of our anatomy combined with the swift torsional movement of the golf swing that makes the game of golf so challenging and taxing on our spine.
Golf truly is an athletic event and like all sports, it is imperative to stretch and strengthen those muscles used for the event. Proprioception, the body’s ability to sense joint position and movement within the joint is also crucial.
